Hi all,

A simple question: I am importing a data file into MI (v 5.5 , Win 95) from
an Access 97 database. This file contains about 700 records with 30 odd
parameters each. Many of the parameters are missing for many of the
records. My problem is that most of the import routes I have tried cause
the missing values to be converted into zeros. Zero values are meaningful
for many of these parameters, so the damage cannot be undone. I have tried:

1) Going directly from Access to MapInfo : blanks change to zero

2) Going from Access to a dbf file, and then to MapInfo : blanks change to
zero

3) Going from Access to an Excel 5.0 file, and then to MapInfo using the
'import entire sheet' option : blanks are preserved, but column name info is
lost: I would really rather not have to rename 30 columns every time I load
data

4) Going from Access to an Excel file, and then to MapInfo defining the
range on the sheet to import, and checking the box for 'use line above data
for column headings': columns are correctly named, but blanks change to zero

Does anyone have a fail safe route to move datafiles, column headings and
blank values from Access to MI ?

I can't begin to tell you how much time I've spent over the years making
sure that software developers realize that zeros are not the same as blanks
!

Thanks for any help,
