The NAD conversion only works for areas inside the USA. If you are outside
the USA, you need to apply a different translation. I am in Canada and we do
a lot of NAD translation for GIS customers.

Try to save the table in NAD27 first in changing the projection, and then save
as in NAD83.

It sounds like your original map is actually in lat/long unprojected rather
than NAD27. Using Save Copy As on an unprojected lat/long file just adds the
projection information to the file without changing the actual coordinates.

Double check the projection of your original file, and let me know if that
solves the problem.

Pete,

First Save Copy As NAD27, then Save Copy As NAD83. I had this same problem a
while ago (should be in the archives), and I think this is what worked.

Cheers,
Tim
