Sounds like you've left the background on in the hashed layer. Make sure
it's switched off and see if it makes a difference. Also ensure it is
listed above the solid colour layer in the layer control box.

Subject: MI Thematic layers

Hi,

What I'm trying to do is stack thematic layers to show the presence or
absence of different things. What I've done is create two thematic layers
on top of the base geography, where the first (lower) layer is solid
color coded and the next layer is hashed, with the background check-box
unchecked, ie use no background. What I would expect is to see both
layers,
that is the solid color with the various colored hashes on top. What I get
is only the top level hash without seeing the lower level. My question
is, is there someway to display the multiple layers without added a new
geographic level for each thematic layer that I want to display??

Thanks for any help/pointers,

Jim Ballantine
