We used this software for capturing geology and hydrology maps. Its great if you
manage to set your tolerences correctly for autotracing. Using the "smooth"
functionality is not as good as setting up your tolerences properly initially. I
would recommend tracing map outlines and leaving off all text and colors,
perform an auto trace, and try this several times with different tolerences
before performing any smoothing on the trace. then import in GIS software and
add attributes. I may also caution the use of georeferencing/control points
using this software - we had problems with this but I believe those have been
resolved. Perhaps georeference/register your raster image prior to vectorising,
or capture the control points as arc cross-hairs and georeference using your GIS
software.

I would highly recommend R2V as a rastor-vector conversion package. It has such
functionality as auto-tracing, tracing by color etc.....................and its
quite affordable too - give it a go!
