I can't help with the banding, I think that's just losuy DEMs, but I was
able to clean up the seams. I forget the exact steps but I think this
should get you started.

Splice all the DEMs you need to use into a single VM grid, and then resize
the grid to a much larger cell size. (Maybe 3 or 4 times as large). This
got rid of my seams, or borders. Then "stamp" the merged original grid onto
the resized grid. This will fill in the gaps around the borders with the
resized valuse, while preserving the quality of the original DEMs.
