Well Manifold does not produce thematic maps the way MapInfo does it, so it 
can not possibly replace old good MapInfo. It's rather an extremely 
powerful GIS / spatial <<analysis>> add-on to MapInfo (as well as to 
ArcView etc.). And their 3d visualisation stuff is cool too.
Up till now, I was deliberately deleting all messages about printing from 
MapInfo. Now I have to produce a poster-size map from MapInfo and regret 
it. Can anyone offer any suggestions for professional [vector] output from 
MapInfo? Avenza's MapPublisher seems to do the job, but I recently noticed 
small notes on the website stating incompatibility of the most recent 
versions of MapPublisher and Illustrator / Freehand, the major host 
programs. Something to think about, given that upgrades to any subsequent 
versions from any of the parties (Avenza itself, Adobe and Macromedia) 
aren't cheap.
The only option so far seems to be exporting MapInfo layers to dxf. Or 
converting everything from MapInfo to ArcView and exporting layers as Adobe 
Illustrator .ai files (very handy option in ArcView). However, in any case 
the attributes and formatting/design are lost by the time they reach any 
DTP program.
Also, I tried printing from MapInfo to PDF - the output is raster, not vector.
Any plug-in for Corel from MapInfo? Corel may be worse than Adobe packages, 
but it seems to have a decent vector output and the cost of upgrading to 
Corel 9 Graphics Suite (Draw and PhotoPaint and many more) is several times 
cheaper ($200 US) than buying or even upgrading Adobe Illustrator or Adobe 
Photoshop alone. And Corel offers competitive upgrades, Adobe does not.
Does anyone know any other program (other than ArcView) that produces 
professional output from the layout and can eat MapInfo files? Any suggestions?
