Thanks to all respondants,
This answer from Chris finally solved the problem quirk?
Note points 6 and 7. Not intuitive by any means.
Thanks again

Gabor,

1. Open the Excel table in MapInfo.
2. Make the table mappable
3. Create the points
4. Save a copy of the table with the new projection
5. Open the new table
6. Change the map projection to another projection (not AMG)
7. Change the map projection back to AMG
8. update the columns with the CentroidX(obj) and CentroidY(obj)

Subject: MI Converting coordinates

Dear Listers,
I have a list of ISG coordinates in an excel table and I need to convert
these into AMG coordinates.
Assuming I create a table and create points from the ISG values how do I
get AMG coordinates ?
I expect it is through updating two new columns. How do I get Mapinfo to
do the transformation? As I need to give the client another updated excel
table.

Appologies to the non Australians who are not familiar with the ISG, AMG
coordinates.
But if you can tell me how to change the coordinates between two earth
metric projections I can gues the rest.
Thank you
