One option you may want to look into in the future is Scalable Vector
Graphics (SVG) to do your mapping functions.
SVG is a very inexpensive solution when it comes to publish maps on the web.

Scalable Vector Graphics is a new, completely open standard recommended and
developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
The development of SVG is seconded by many notable software groups and
scientific communities around the globe.
SVG offers all the advantages of Flash, the de-facto vector web standard of
the day, plus the following features:
non-propriterary, embedded fonts,extensible markup language
(XML),stylesheets (CSS), interactivity (zoom-in, recenter, etc.), animation.

With the help of the DOM, full HTML compatibility is obtained. For a more
detailed description of svg check
(http://www.w3.org/Graphics/SVG/Overview.html)

We have prepared an SVG Mapping Technology Preview at
http://www.dbxgeomatics.com/svg.asp
This includes many samples of SVG maps (as well as an introduction to SVG).

Subject: MI advice on making static maps for web

> Hello Fellow Mappers,
