Jennifer:
The tool you describe from ArcView is the single thing I missed most about
it upon first using MapInfo. Then I found a utility created by John
Hollingsworth called Invert Selection, file name "InvrtSel.zip," that
performs the task in MI.
Go here:
http://www.directionsmag.com/tools
and look for it. There's more than one way to access it on the web page, but
one certain way currently is to click on "all files" - it will appear on the
10th page of utilities about half-way down the page. I recommend it.
