The server name you should give is whatever name you gave to the user data
source when you set up the ODBC connection. This is not neccesarily the
name of the database or the name of the machine it is on. It is any name
assigned by you.

The fact that the error returned is that of an incorrect username or
password suggests that a hit is actually being made on the database but the
username or password is incorrect. If the service/server name you were
giveing was incorrect Oracle would more likely return a "Oracle service not
found" error.

You should make sure that the username and password you are using are valid
ones, and test the ODBC connection externally to MapInfo.

Subject: MI-L Mapinfo ODBC

Hi everyone

I want to open an Oracle database in mapinfo. I have the database
created in Personal Oracle 7. Both Mapinfo & Personal Oracle are
installed in the same system. I created the user DSN from the ODBC data
source administrator. I tried to open the database from the OPEN ODBC
Table option in Mapinfo selecting the data source created, immediately a
dialog box opens prompting for Server name, User name & password. As
database is in the same system, what is the server name i should give?

I gave the database name in the server text box but an error msg popups
- "[INTERSOLV][ODBC ORACLE DRIVER][ORACLE]ORA-01017: INVALID
USERNAME/PASSWORD;LOGON DENIED".

Pls suggest me ..

Thanks in advance
Kumar
