I'm not going to suggest that what I'm about to say is anything more than
idle speculation,
but my hypothesis is that you have encountered a bug in the French-language
extension
of MapInfo.
I suspect that non-English-language versions of MapInfo have MapBasic
pseudocode bundled in with them somehow, in order to perform things like
message table lookups.
This MapBasic pseudocode would have been compiled from MapBasic source code.
When the pseudocode encounters a runtime error, it would theoretically then
produce
an error dialog, just like any other MapBAsic error dialog.
