We just upgraded from the DesignJet 2500 to the 5000PS - the speed and
quality are amazing! I'm not sure how the 5000PS compares to the 500, but
the 5000PS comes standard with 128MB of ram and a fairly large hard drive. A
3"x6" document that took 90 minutes to spool and print takes only 6 minutes!
And the resolution is 1200x600....

I would definitely recommend upgrading your ram - 16MB isn't enough. Our
2500 "rammed out" ALL THE TIME and it was a CONSTANT struggle. I ultimately
decided to have the spooling take place on my machine which greatly
sacrificed my computer's performance during printing.

I would also suggest connecting the plotter directly to your computer via
parallel cable rather than going through the server - setup is easier, you
run into less problems, and speed is greatly enhanced.

Good luck!
