Quick thankyou to Jonathan Stokes for helping me see the light, here's his
response:
"do "Table > Update Column" select the column and the table you want and
make
the value to update to RowID - this will add a number running from 1 - n in
that column. It basically an internal MapInfo thing but very useful all the
same"
Seems that I was making things difficult for myself, a speciality of mine.
