Dear List, I am wondering what is the easiest way to create a rectangular region around a each point in a point file. The region would need to be in a new layer or the cosmetic layer. The buffer command doesn't work as the 4 segments option on a buffers smoothness gives a diamond. I need a square. Basically I need the ability to generate 1, 5, 10, etc. minute squares around points. The aggregation tools in Vertical Mapper base the aggregation between 4 points, and aggregates the values. The examples below illustrates: *---* | x | *---* The stars are the original points, the (x) represents the new region. I need the following: xxxx x * x xxxx I do not have MapBasic and am not currently programming in any way in the MapBasic window other than to increase the number of field in a query result or the number of fields one can append into a table in one step. I usually have answers but this time I'm stumped. I've tried using the Lat/Long grid maker to handle this but my only solution is to use half minute grid squares then combine the squares which surround the point data then append the attributes of the point data onto the regions then save the regions to a new table. However, this option seems tedious and probably not sufficient for my purposes, not to mention hard to automate.
