I obtained some ESRI tract shape files for the southeast U.S. Each tract is its own file (i.e. each tract has a dbf, shp and shx file). I have some 4,000 tracts that I need to combine into one layer. I used MapInfo's Universal Translator and converted the ESRI shape files into MapInfo format. Now I have an ID, MAP, TAB and DAT file for each of my 4,000-plus tracts. Can some one tell me how I can open all these tracts at once, then merge them into one master layer for use in MapInfo. Is this possible? Is there some MapBasic code or something that could handle this?
