List,
Would you regard that we are a small and insignificant MapInfo site? We have
currently 59 licences of MapInfo Pro v5.01 packaged and distributed on our
network. I often wonder this, in comparison to large American corporations,
which Andrew Dressel is referring to.
One other point to remember, Hamersley Iron, here in Western Australia, is
one member of the Rio Tinto Group of companies. Now, I could not tell you
how many licences of MapInfo the Rio Tinto group may have in use throughout
the world but I reckon we may well have added a fair few $$ to the coffers
of the MapInfo Corp. over the past years.
So, little ol' me, sitting here putting in justifications to the bean
counters why we should buy maintenance etc. etc. sits on the list and thinks
the same as most people who have contributed to this thread!
I am having v6.5 packaged at present and I am getting the same response from
my users here, about why, new features and NOT fixes to annoying problems
already in the software are in v6.5 i.e.(to mention a few).....
*be able to save workspaces as pevious versions, so we don't have to edit
the workspace if sending to a user with previous version installed.
*more than 256 characters in a text object
*update the tools docking to current windows standards (like Office '97!!!!)
*a snap to grid in the layout, proper ruler that works, geez it is a layout
after all!!!
*auto labels that work
*label lines NOT taking on the symbology of the current region setting, how
many times have I opened a new workspace only to discover I had label lines
in heavy weight red dashed. So close workspace or MapInfo reset back to the
symbology you want and reload workspace?
......on and on (see the wish list).

MapInfo says, "send us your list of changes", "we have already". They have a
list staring at them 24hrs a day!
I'll say one more thing. Considering Hamersley has spent minimum $150,000
AUS (not including MapBasic, MapX) on MapInfo products and then I go off and
take a look at the Manifold website and look at the features and interface
of v5 AND the cost$$$$! I start to wonder, what if???????

My AUS$ worth (for what it is worth!!!).
