JOB DESCRIPTION ? DATA TECHNICIAN
Position Overview
This is an entry level position which requires a working knowledge of
computers and running applications on multiple computers on a schedule.
Other activities include, maintaining data and product backups, producing
final products on CD-Rom, and maintaining production logs and databases. A
basic knowledge of GIS and spatial data is helpful and the successful
candidate will be expected to learn new applications and operating
environments such as working within SQL Server, Oracle and Java based
applications.
Responsibilities
The Data Technician will have the following responsibilities:
To produce data products in a timely fashion to a high standard as guided
by Product Analysts and specfications.
Product product masters on CD-Rom.
To document production activities.
To incorporate quality assurance checks and verification steps into the
product development process.
Maintain Production logs and databases.
Requirements
The Data Technician should have the following skills:
Computer Science or Computing Degree.
Ability to demonstrate good programming skills such as MapBasic, VB or C.
Good teamplayer, ability to articulate and present ideas and plans to a
group of peers.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work in a very detailed environment and be methodical and
structured in approach to work.
Desirable skills:
Knowledge or experience of any of the following would be considered an
advantage:
GIS knowledge particularly spatial and non-spatial data
Oracle database experience
SQL Server database experience
Java development experience
