I am using the clip region to focus on a particular location of a map.
The problem is that I want the clip region colour to be a light yellow,
not the white default colour. Is it possible to change the clip region
colour?

I found the answer by setting the region style colour in the layout
window.
My next question is when printing the map in post script, the file size
is huge when the clip region is applied (over 100MB and counting). When
the clip region is not applied, the plot file size is 19MB. Is this to
be expected? Is there some option that must be checked off or on in MI
6.5?
