I've recently done a project which required this and got good results - we
wrote a class which handles all the printing and uses MapX along the same
lines as the web products.
MapX isn't a print server like MI Pro so you can't produce high quality
printed output off the screen - what you need to do is adjust the size of
the MapX object (use the SetSize method, one of the methods used in
MapXtreme NT) to the size of the output image required. To get closer
control over the DPI use the paper unit twips, then export the image
(ExportMap method) - and while youre blowing up or shrinking the image
EITHER hide the MapX object or use another invisible one in the background.
One major advantage of MapX over MapInfo is that you don't have to render
anything to the screen to print it out.
Depending on the size of the image you are exporting the performance is
comparable or faster than MI Pro but this is definitely a limitation of the
product, which is still essentially a viewing tool.

a bit off topic but I figure there are a few people on the L that might know
something about MapX. A colleague is currently having some issues with MapX
