I do that all the time but have not encountered any problems in terms of
quality.  What application do you open the file in?  I use it Powerpoint after
save-window-as (bmp).  The only thing I can suggest is that try save-window-as
not in the layout window but map window and also if you choose a bigger font
size for all the labels, bigger symbols sizes, lines etc.  If you have already
pursued this option then disregard this suggestion.
