I raised this very issue myself some time back without stirring much response, but I 
second the idea. I too think ProServer was a great product, although it was much more 
"raw" and ressource expensive than any MapX based solution will ever be. The latter 
also was being the reason it was abandoned.

BUT, as I see it, we can skip and hop all we like, but the licensing still strictly 
forbids it. It's just plain illegal to use MI Pro in any web mapping scenario, not 
intra nor inter. Regardless of how useful it would be to a lot of users. So unless we 
get MapInfo Corp. to allow it, it's basically a no-go. That's our challenge :)

Hey, I had a thought - if the ProServer is no longer a commercial
product,
maybe someone would be willing to offer it to the shareware market?
Provided it would work on todays platforms, of course.

It could be a good platform for testing webbgis ideas, and then perhaps
users would move on to mapxtreme.
