Thanks for the help, Lars.
I have MapBasic 6.0, however, I'm still learning, far from proficient.
Add to that studying MySQL to find out what kind of changes to make in the
existing code to adapt it to MySQL, and needless to say, my progress is
slow.
Okay, next question. (You guys are gonna get soooooo sick 'o me. lol) NOW,
the owner of the database is telling me he wants me to keep the map catalog
for the dbms table locally, rather than actually having it IN the remote
database. Can someone tell me if this is even possible, before I shift my
efforts??

Hi Terry,

The mentioned tool is distributed with MI Pro, and as such, the source code
is distributed with the MapBasic program. The only difference between the
supported drivers, as I understand it, are fairly simple syntactical
differencies in the connect and query string syntax. If you have Mapbasic
you can fetch and modify it yourself (see c:\program
files\mapinfo\mapbasic\samples\mapbasic\database\...)

If not, I'll be happy to compile the modules and relink the programs for
you, if you can specify the neccessary changes. I'm attaching a zip with
the three MB modules in question (v 6.0): MIODBCAT.mb, SQLUTIL.mb and
MIUPLOAD.mb. Hope no McAfee agent thwarts them :-)

I'm also interested in knowing whether or not MySQL can be used with MI
Pro. So I'll be happy to help in setting this up for you. And would very
much see the result if you're doing the compilation&linking yourself.

One of my colleagues have added the Progress database in this manner, by
copying and modifying an existing entry. He's not in today, but I'll try to
get hold of his mods asap.

Best regards / Med venlig hilsen
Lars Nielsen

Thanks Franois,
I appreciate the help. Unfortunately, I tried that, and the driver I'm
using (MySQL) is not supported, and changing the driver to one of the
supported ones is not an option at this time. It suggests using MapBasic
to
update the driver list in the program, which I'm working on right now . . .
, or manually creating the catalog, but it doesn't explain how to do that.
If anyone has the Mapbasic code for creating a dbms catalog using a MySQL
server, or can explaing the procedure for manually creating the catalog,
I'd
much appreciate it.

Hi Terry,

To create a Map Catalog, load the application "DBMS Catalog" available in
the tool manager.

Run it and specify the DBMS connection you want to map your data from and
Bingo!

Hope this helps!

I've been trying unsuccessfully to map a dbms table linked to an SQL
server.
The link works fine, however, I cannot map the table because it doesn't
have
a map catalog in the source file. Any suggestions, or tips on how to fix
this, and or work around it? Thanks

Terry
