A summary... (original question below) Hiding grid lines on a browser: When you make the browser window active, click from the menu Browse->Options and remove the tick from 'Show grid lines'.
Hiding the field / column title: There appears to be no easy way to do this, but several suggestions were based on creating a blank white rectangle over the top of this part of the browser frame in a layout.
