Chris-
I suspect that you have converted it incorrectly. If the files are in Shape
or E00 format, you first have to determine their original projection before
converting them. You'd get that info in a .prj or .txt file that
accompanies the data you download. Try this: Convert to their proper
projection first, then "Save Copy As..." to get it to your desired
projection. In your case, I suspect that the E00 is in plain Lat/Long
format, so use Arclink or Universal Translator to convert it using that
projection. When you open it in MI I'm guessing it will fit well over your
existing data.
Jason
- Just an explaination if you want to hear why your new tables are so small.
Consider the orignal projection (Lat/Long). The built-in coordinates for
each line, point, node, etc are going to be expressed as something like
(-91.20,51.99). If you simply tell the conversion program that it is UTM,
it will assume those built-in values are meters. Since the meters East and
North are more along the lines of (211 460E, 5 768 450N) at the place your
existing data is, you may be able to figure out why the table looks so much
smaller and far away. You have told it that it belongs at -91m East and 52m
North.
Hope that helps!

Subject: MI-L MI Free Data set compatibility

I'm new to the list and I've tried to search the old messages but frankly,
I'm not sure what keywords to use to search for with this issue.

I downloaded some Datasets from the http://www.gisdatadepot.com/ website.
(Precisely, the Ontario Road and Rail line files).

The data was in ARC format and was no problem to convert and place in the
NAD 27 Zone 17 projection that we commonly use. Since it is new data, I
didn't expect it to line up with my other Ontario maps (which I could
easily move around) but what has surprised me is that the maps are both
apparently in different scales. The Road and Rail maps are not only really
far south and west, it is incredibly small.

To move this map, I only need to make it edittable in the layer, click it
and scroll around. BUT does anyone know how I can take the one map,
increase the size of it and then use it as a layer? It doesn't have to be
precise but the more precise the better.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Chris
