Has anyone had issues creating PDFs from MapInfo with Adobe PDF Writer? Everytime I go to create a PDF from a MI layout, my symbols (MapInfo Arrows set) becomes a rectangle. I recently converted over to Windows 2000 and I think perhaps that might be the root of my problem. Does anyone have any information to share on this problem? ____________________________________________________ Ethan M. Gomberg City GIS, City of Orlando -Engineering Bureau 400 S. My method is to print to file (postscript) and then use Distiller (v5.0). I don't print directly to the PDF writer. We keep .ps files of our maps as master copies just in case we have data, MapInfo or workspace problems, so using postscript as an intermediary file isn't an overhead. [EMAIL PROTECTED] -------------------------------------------------------------- OK. When you go File-Print, choose Adobe PDFWriter, then click Properties. There is a "font embedding" tab that has the options. The only other thing I can suggest is to try Distiller instead of PDFWriter. I have issues where PDFWriter won't handle labels with a "box" background (the box doesn't show up), and issues with Distiller where it doesn't print the top (red) part of my interstate shields. So.... I know that between Adobe Acrobat and Mapinfo, something is messed up. I just don't know what. If you have that same thing with boxed text let me know. Tim Nuteson Target Corp --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ethan, I've had this problem using Adobe Acrobat 5.0 with a custom font of oil and gas well symbols. I'm also using Windows 2000. The cure was to make sure the fonts are embedded. In the setup menu, one of the options is to download the True Type font as a softfont. Jim Spriggs Research Program Specialist (GIS) California Department of Conservation Division of Oil, Gas, & Geothermal Resources 916-323-2730 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You have to embed your fonts within Adobe PDF. There is a checkbox to set within the printer driver. The only other thing I can think of is: confirm that under the fonts tab of the printer driver, the Do Not use printer fonts check box is checked. Good luck! Also, add your mapInfo fonts to "always include" list. -- Sonya Nikolsky Production Manager JCH GeoInfo 3600 University Dr Durham NC 27707 (919)493-9339 Phone ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PDF Writer is primarily used for text documents, and Distiller is more useful for graphics and complex documents. Try using Distiller. Also check your settings, sounds like your fonts are not being converted correctly. Barbara H.
