Actually, being half-serious for a moment, this is a bit of a hobbyhorse of
mine. I am firmly on the side of 'Long/Lat' because this matches the
orientation of the even more firmly established conventions 'easting/northing'
and 'x/y', even though 'long and lat' still sounds strange in comparison to 'lat
and long'. I'd be interested in speculation on how the latter spoken convention
came about...maybe because historically latitude was more easily and precisely
determined than longitude?

So many standards already exist like peanut butter and jelly, Batman and
Robin, Lewis and Clark (sorry for the American slant to the list). Why
should we mappers be so confused? The horror...the humanity of it all...
