Sounds like she is a victim of upgradeidis. When I upgraded from 6.0 to 6.5, such things as fonts and symbols were placed not placed in the expected \Mapinfo X\symbols directory, but were placed in C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\MapInfo\MapInfo\Professional\650\CustSymb\*.BMP and similar to the font file
If she's looking in the default folder, she maybe looking at different symbols than MI. Within MI go to "Options" Preferences Directories to fix this if it is the case.
