Jenifer,

What you may have a couple of items going on here:

1)  The BMP size may be greater than 192 KB.
2)  The filename used to name those custom symbols could be longer than 8
characters.
3)  The color depth of the BMPs might be greater than 256 colors.

Any one of these could affect whether or not a custom symbol appears within
MapInfo.  There are some other strange quirks that could cause this problem
but they're only a problem with users who have had a version 6.0 or earlier
installed on the machine and then upgraded to 6.5.  (Basically it deals with
the fact that a registry setting places the new custom symbols directory in
the Profiles section for a given user, not the MAPINFO_INSTALL_DIR/custsymb
that we're all familiar with).
