Hi All
Just to add something to the ongoing discussion on protection of
Data and copyrights
As some of us pointed out about protecting data by using encryption
techniques and ESRI having passed it onto the developers to make their own
way for encrypting data (MI to follow suit)
What I was wondering is that we already are in a mess where proprietary GIS
data formats don't talk to each other straight and add onto it newer ways
of encryptions developed by third parties or the data creator....
So aren't we entering a phase where even within a single data format - we
have different vendors supported encryptors - which would be needed to be
shipped along with the data and even more complex issues arise like - Data
format translations etc
Is there any standard for adopting an encryption - I'm not sure about that.
What do you say.
Regards
Deepak Kaul
