The fact is that MI stores coords as integers limiting them to 2 billion distinct values for representing the range of a table (difference between the mini and the maxi bounds}. In an unbounded un-projected fable, the "gain size"" of the matrix is about 11 cm in latitude, cos(lat)*11 cm in longitude. One can reduce it by specifying narrower bounds.
