In MI 7

Open a single large raster image (I used a 4.5 MB JPEG) and task manager (or
98/ME equiv) - pan, zoom, for a bit and watch memory usage grow - I was
getting up to a 3MB jump with each pan/zoom. Then close all tables. Memory
is indeed not released until you shut down MI. If you're working with large
rasters it won't take long to start running out of memory - vectors seem
fine even with very large seamless tables.

Same with a BMP - same sort of memory grab per move on a 4MB bitmap.

Haven't got any big TIFFs to hand.

This doesn't happen in MapX 5. I opened Geoset manager and panned/zoomed the
same way - there was a jump each time until the operation was finished then
memory useage dropped back down (ie as you would expect).

Patch definitely required! Can't put this out to users as it is.

Been panning and digitizing for about six hours non-stop. I save my
workspace and edited files every ten minutes or so. I understand that this
MIP verison also has an automatic update feature that calls a Troy sever
looking for repairs?

MIP Ver 7.0
266 intel
on WIN2000 with all updates as of yesterday.

You might want to check on any video driver and/or os MS OS repairs.

I've been having a similar problem whilst on-screen digitising from a large
raster. It has only happened since I upgraded to v7.0, and is beginning to
annoy me. Just crashes on panning occasionally. Is it something to do with
v7? I think it must be. Norton System Doctor keeps telling me that my
graphics (GDI) are running low. Even when I only have MI running.

Has anyone else come across the following problem:

As I pan and zoom in MI, the memory used just continues to build up until I
get an Out of Memory, it just crashes, locks up, or looses edited map
objects. MI just never seems to release any memory on window refreshes.

MI version 7
OS Windows 2000
1GHz processor

This can be seen in the Task manager Performance window as I am working.
Does any one have any explanations, excuses, workarounds, patches, etc.
