Don't use a Lat/Long coordsys, and it looks fine. I just tried this and when the point table's coordsys is Lat/Long the results look a bit wrong and are as you describe. Saving that same table in state plane coordsys and trying again, the result was perfect. It may be all you have to do is set the mapper to a cartesian projection.
