Is there a rationale for this that we can determine? Is there a logical
reason (ie. computational speed, user requirements) why MapInfo is not using
spherical geometry in its calculations?

On a separate topic but along the same lines...is there someone out there
who knows to what positional accuracy the coordinate geometry of a MapInfo
object is stored (32 Bit floating points, 64 Bit double-precision)?
