Mike,

With a machine with those specs why does it come with PC2100 (266MHz
DDR) memory instead of PC2700 (333MHz DDR) memory. "They" say that the
higher speed P4s can be limited if they don't get proper memory
latency/bandwidth. Also, I would go with 1 Dimm instead of 2.

Finally, if you really have a budget and since MI can be pretty HDD
intensive I would put a couple of Ultra160 SCSI HDD in it. (can have up
to 3.6ms access time <drool>)

Try www.alienware.com they have weird looking machines but they give you
all the high end accessories you could ever want.

BTW, IMHO the Quatro 4 and the GeForce 4 for that matter are overkill
for mapping. Of course they have other possibilities.

Good luck,

Richard

Subject: MI-L Hardware Specs

Hi all, one for the tech heads

I have the fortunate situation of a new position and
a budget to purchase hardware. The system is to accommodate Mapinfo Pro
7.0
and associated files including transport, contours, land parcel for
regional
water utility, and will be required to be productive for a period of no
less
than three years.

I have listed my proposed specs below, please
comment on the technical level. I'm limited to a windows environment -
Intel
pentium based box. I'm concerned with regard to Hdd access speed and
video
refresh rates in particular.

Someone has suggested the NVIDIA Quadro4 series of
