um, yeah. wasn't Geotracker included with MapInfo in the first place? i know i've used it successfully many a time, and it's very simple. just plug your GPS into the com port, make sure goetracker recognizes it, then it can record a route as a polyline (NMEA), at the same time plotting your current position as an object, and if you set up a table beforehand with the correct fields, you can plot points as you go which are able to record the data usually displayed on the GPS (speed, heading, PDOP, altitude, etc.).
i was using this to record bus routes and bus stops, and when i got back in the office i wanted to watch us drive the route, however the problem is that with geotracker you can only playback in real-time. but with the route file it records the NMEA sentences, including (i think) satellite data and everything, so i remember once finding a program that could read these files and play them back as fast as you wish. i forget where it is, but nowadays i think it wouldn't be too difficult for me to do make up something like that myself if i were so inclined. actually i found the program that will replay the data, but not on a map. if you use geotracker or whatever to record an NMEA log file, this can open it and play it back as fast as you want. check out www.commlinx.com.au. i'm sure if you look around there'll be a gaggle of programs that will interface NMEA sentences with mapinfo. i will probably be looking into this myself in the next month or two anyway, so i'll let you know what i figure out. ash -----Original Message----- From: Christof Kaiser [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, 17 September 2002 11:55 PM To: 'Scott Walsh'; '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: Re: MI-L READING NEMA STRINGS-PLOT ON MAP problem is to read the COM port from mapinfo correctly without freezing the machine. doesnt work with mapbasic. but download http://www.bluemarblegeo.com/products/geotracker.php?op=download that does the job with an external dll. can save routes as mapinfo files as well. regards christof > -----Ursprngliche Nachricht----- > Von: Scott Walsh [SMTP:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Gesendet am: Dienstag, 17.
