Vinny I have successfully used Acrobat Distiller in a rather roundabout way. I have found that using Distiller to produce a pdf map from MapInfo where there is a large raster background layer can result in weird problems. Often not all the raster will be reproduced in the pdf and sometimes text in the MapInfo layers will not appear in the pdf. I found the best solution is to create a postscript file by printing to file from a MapInfo layout using the driver for the Tektronix Phaser 600 Extended printer. (This printer is no longer made or sold but the driver can still be downloaded from the Xerox website.) Then use Distiller to create a pdf file. Using this method I have created A0 size maps incorporating raster tif files up to 80Mb. Do not use HP drivers when creating the postscript file - I have tried several and all were unsuccessful - at least one other person I communicated with had also had very unsatisfactory results with HP drivers. If the MapInfo map has no raster layer then I usually create a pdf file directly using Distiller and have never had problems. I should stress that not all raster layers give problems and I can frequently create pdf files directly using Distiller. The problems seem to occur when the raster files are very large and may also result when compressed tif images are used - but I'm not really sure.
Several people I contacted had experienced similar problems but nobody had the faintest idea what the cause is - that includes technical people at both Acrobat and HP. Contact me directly if you would like more information. John ---------------------------------------------------------- John Elliot Anzeco Pty.
