Good evening!

We have a number of scanned paper geologic maps that were published
prior to GIS. We need to have these registered in NC State Plane
Coordinates 3200, 1983. Our ultimate goal to to register these scanned
raster geologic maps in state plane 1983 meters in Arcview so that we
can serve the maps using ArcIms.

The crux of the problem appears to be with the world file. The maps were
registered using MI6.0. We used map latitude and longitude points that
were inside the scan boundaries. We do not have registration points on
the exact corners of the map margins since there are no data points to
do so.

Using the tab => tfw mbx utility we created world files. However, we
found that there were significant positional errors when we were able to
overplot a well known layer (e. g. county boundaries) when we opened the
image files in Arcview 3.x. Further experimentation with some of the
ESRI scripts were not successful.

At this point we are considering reregistering the maps using ArcInfo.
We would appreciate any suggestions that can be offered. Thank you!
