I was wondering if any of you had any further info on this? "MapInfo Allows Users to Rapidly Develop and Deploy Location-based Applications based on the Microsoft .NET Framework"
http://dynamo.mapinfo.com/presscenter/view.cfm?releaseid=1111 Moving to .NET means something like moving to .COM? If that is the case, will MapInfo developers face a similar fate that ESRI delivered to all of the ArcView 3.x community - shift to ArcGIS or ArcView 8.x since we will no longer support Avenue? Or is it possible that MapInfo Pro 8.x can keep its legacy MapBasic and give all its developers the long sought COM/NET design? I am sort of a rookie in these matters, but if you go .NET do you exclude .COM? Or is the issue vice-a-versa? Does this mean that a MapInfo-centric application might actually be able to call ESRI COM tools? Or even better, frustrated ArcGIS users call on and apply MapInfo Pro.NET? Yikes! This one looks to me to be a very BIG CAT that is squirming something fierce to get out of the bag.... cann't wait till November!
