I do not think it is possible in one command but I would like to be proven wrong.
I would use a block of 2 commands, replacing successively all the numeric values of A by the literal ones for B. You can prepare all the necessary lines in a text editor, copy and paste all in the Mapbasic window and run them in one shot Select * from your_table where columnA=3 into sel Update sel set columnB="White Pine" Jacques Paris e-mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] MapBasic-MapInfo support http://www.paris-pc-gis.com -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:Brian_VanDruten@;fws.gov] Sent: October 30, 2002 11:05 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: MI-L Update column Ok listers, I need more help. I want to update a newly created column based on the values in an old column. For example, in Column A (old column) there are numeric values and I want to put what that numeric value is describing in Column B (new). To be specific, if I have a "3" in Column A, I want MapInfo to automatically put "White Pine" in Column B. Is this possible?
