A few years back one of my first projects with VM was to import an
ascii grid file. VM choked. TechSupport (then NorthwoodGeo) confirmed
the import did not work as advertised but that the next version would
solve the problem. I've gone back and tested this import with each
subsequent upgrade and, although the import now runs all the way
through, I am yet to get a useable grid.
Currently, using VM 3, when I import my ascii grid the resultant file
is invisible. The dimensions appear correct and if I look at the
colour histogram all the classes show up with actual frequencies and
associated colors. If I reclassify and created another grid I can
still get a nicely colored legend but the mapper window is still
blank.
Has anyone else ever encountered a problem like this, or better yet,
a solution?

The approx cost for Vertical Mapper is $1200 US
The import/export process is really easy. Almost one click of a mouse.
For more information about Vertical Mapper :

There is also import/export functions in Grid Analyser (free), but I'm not
sure it will import from ArcInfo grids.
