The error was due in fact to a programming error. I had some trouble
locating it because I was not looking at the right place, the error message
was referring to the line with the "open table" while in fact the error was
3 lines down and was due to the use of tableinfo() with the atab variable
(the entire path + ...TAB) instead of the table name only.

Grey hairs do not prevent basic errors!

Thanks to all you patient guys.

Hi Jacques,

If t wasn't cause that I knew you were a scilled programmer my guess would
be that either the variable atab or the variable nutab were changed in
another place in your code .... ?

Even I have sometime in the past - of course decades ago - had trouble with
my applications because I wasn't aware of the scope my variables were
declared in: Locale, Module or Global. As when I was using a variable that I
thought was global, but it turned out that I hadn't included this variable
in that module, but I had in stead declared a Module varialbe using the
exact same name. I took my quite some time to figure out why the (module)
variable kept on staying "empty" even though I had assigned a value to the
(global) variable.

This was when I saw the great benefits in hungarian notation and naming my
variable depending on their scope:
nCount Locale Integer
mnCount Module Integer
gnCount Global Integer
