I do something similar to what the others have proposed, writing the date into a hidden file somewhere, but I also come up with a sort of encryption for the date. I change the numbers into something that doesn't appear to be a date at all by adding numbers, converting it to ascii characters or some other technique. You can get real creative with this and you don't even have to hide it. Good luck.
