Hi,
eVB may be buggy and MapX Mobile may be trying to catch up on ArcPad,
to add a bit from my own experience on working to develop the same thing on
MapX Mobile and ArcPad.

MapX M scores a lot over ArcPad.
It has got a real large object Model and eVB to support it which is missing
in ArcPad/Appln Builder 6

Most of things in ArcPad can't be customized or their objects created. "It
will be added in the future releases" goes the line everwhere for them. By
restricting the developer to work within Appln Builder environment, the
vast support of developing using eVB is lost and u end up just looking for
workarounds.

MapInfo Australia were goving away a demo application of MapX mobile that
had a huge amount of functionality. A really good start to getting an
application up and running. I'm not sure what the status of it is, but at
the time they were intending on providing it to give developers a jump
start (to
catch up on ArcPaad no doubt).

Am not sure of the final outcome of the idea, but would be worth chasing it
up.

Hi Neil,

I have heard from a couple of sources that the embedded VB is problematic,
but
that the MapX component itself is pretty good.

Exa-Min (the GeoBasemap developers) appear to have mastered the technology.
I
saw a final beta version of their new product "GBM Mobile" yesterday. It
appears to be very solid and has some clever features - GPS tracking, GIS
drawing/editing etc. Perhaps one of the standout features is their custom
data
entry forms. This comprises a user-configurable (i.e. zero programming)
form
builder to tailor the PDA user interface for optimal data entry / capture
for
any data set.

Nothing on their web site just yet, but they tell me it will be there for a
product launch at the end of this month. Keep an eye on
     http://www.geobasemap.com/

I look forward to your summary!

Cheers,
David Jerrard
