Hello Marlon & Bill,
I think Bill is right about symbolic links: very useful with Linux. Windows shortcuts are not as good.
I drop all my MapInfo data file location shortcuts into 'My Documents' and access them from 'standard places'>'my documents' (MI7/XP). This achieves the same as eg. MS Office shortcuts.
Cheers,
Matt

Sorry, symbolic links are only available in a unix system (like
Linux.) Windows doesn't have 'em. Shortcuts are what you have to use in Windows, but these are only based on the idea of symbolic links; they are not really that complete. Still, shortcuts are useful, but they don't work everywhere as a file would.
If you can see your shortcuts in the file explorer, you should be able to see them in the File/Open dialog. Also, put your shortcuts in a regular drive directory path, just as if they were normal tables. If you put them on the desktop, you'll have to search for them starting at "Desktop," which is at the very top of your system's directory tree.
