Ian, sounds to me like you want to use back interpolation,, or as VM calls it 'Point inspection', you'll find it under 'analyse' on the grid manager dialog.... (it is THE reason to buy and use Mi & VM as far as i am concerned!) point to note, it will backinterpolate all grids at once, so if you only want the 'altitude' grid close all other grids down.
