MI-L MapInfo compatability with Win 2000/ Windows XPpro

I have just had a major setback with my computer and want to either 
upgrade the current unit or purchase a newer computer.  My current o/s 
is Windows 98.  Are there any conflicts with MapInfo and Windows 2000 or 
Windows XPpro? I am using a Toshiba Laptop Tecra 8100.

Any advice on other Laptops that might be better?  I was looking at the 
newer Toshiba Tecra M1....

Need to know before embarking on a money spending journey to upgrade or 
purchase new!
