They don't really define what "customized" means. Is it a custom algorithm that's similar to, but not exactly, Transverse Mercator?
Or do they simply mean a custoim set of parameters for a true Transverse Mercator projection? >From the way I read the website, this seems to be a convenience projection, designed to get around Mississippi's multi-zone State Plane system. It's probably not an "official" system enacted by the state government. In this case, I think "customized" simply means the set of parameters used for a true Transverse Mercator. I could be wrong. I took another look at the explanation of the MSTM projection and they indicate it _is_ a _custom_ projection. Does that matter? Here is the URL (careful of the line break in the url): http://www.maris.state.ms.us/Data_Warehouse/QA_Reports/QA-MSTM_Projection/qa -mstm_projection.html -----Original Message----- From: Spencer Simpson [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, June 02, 2003 8:58 AM To: 'David Reid'; 'MapInfo-L' Subject: RE: MI-L Need help with Mississippi Transverse Mercator You definitely have enough information to build the correct Coordsys clause for this projection. If this were a "modified" Transverse Mercator you might have a problem (MapInfo would have to hardcode the algorithm into MI Pro). But, from all indications on the MARIS website, this projection is an ordinary Transverse Mercator with ordinary parameters. Remember, to insert a projection into MAPINFOW.PRJ, the units parameter must be a number, as opposed to the name of the units. If you have more problems, post the Coordsys clause you built. Hope this helps Spencer -----Original Message----- From: David Reid [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Sunday, June 01, 2003 11:52 PM To: MapInfo-L Subject: MI-L Need help with Mississippi Transverse Mercator Greetings All, I could use some help defining the MSTM (Mississppi Transverse Mercator) projection within the MI prj file. Reading the MI user manual leaves me thinking I don't have all the information on the projection, needed to add it to the prj file. According to the MARIS website, the 'hybrid' UTM projection follows these particulars: Scale Factor: 0.9998335 Central Meridian: -89 45' 00'' Central Latitude: 32 30' 00'' False Northing: 1,300,000 meters False Easting: 500,000 meters Projection Units: meters Spheroid: GRS80 Datum: NAD83 Thanks in advance, David --------------------------------------------------------------------- List hosting provided by Directions Magazine | www.directionsmag.com | To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Message number: 7100 --------------------------------------------------------------------- List hosting provided by Directions Magazine | www.directionsmag.com | To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Message number: 7108
