Chris,

I couldn't agree with you more. An upgrade that focused on what the actual
users wanted (and one would think that MI-L is a good representation of
this) would be a better sell than upgrades that are, IMHO, full of 'fluff'.

And I agree with the statement about the 'available fix' rather than to have
to pay for it. Look at Microsoft.

Subject: RE: MI-L MapInfo 7.5 Feature List

Sorry but have to pipe up here!

I attended the Perth Forum yesterday and got a bit riled up about yet
another "costly" upgrade full of super features but not addressing some of
the simpler wishes that this list has put forward to MapInfo over the past
few years (so much for taking notice of feedback)i.e.

- better tools in the layout, snap to a grid, a ruler that is half useful!
How many people finish their maps in MapPublisher or Corel Draw?
- what about a decent grid tool for mappers? I have been lucky enough to use
Encom Discover's grid mbx (at a cost, mind you), this has always been far
superior to the one offered in MI.
- what about fixing the annoying item when the label lines take on the
symbology of the current region tool settings. If you make an edit and say
leave the region tool linestyle to red, weight 3. Then close all. If you
don't reset your region tool then the next workspace opened with label lines
takes on the sym. of the last set region linestyle!

etc. etc
BTW does the wish list still exist?

One final thing that got me was, MapInfo saying that the 3D window will have
higher resolution to stop the "blocky" looking current 3D window? To me,
that should be a freely available fix, not a new feature that you get if you
pay for an upgrade!

Thanks for taking any notice, if you do?
Chris

I'm a bit surprised that MapInfo hasn't posted this information to the list
