if i understand your question, i believe it can be done with the objectinfo
function.

Example

go to table>>>update column>>> select the column you want to populate and in
the Value text box type

objectinfo(obj,3)

this should populate that column with the text of the object itself.

Subject: MI-L attribute data for text labels

Hello List,

I have created a large number of labels using AUTOLBL.MBX, and have saved
them (the cosmetic objects) into a new layer. Thus, I now have a .TAB file
with text as objects.

Here's my question:

Is there a way to get the label text for each label into the attribute table
for it's respective object? For instance, I have a label object with the
text string "Tulsa". I would like to get the string "Tulsa" into the
attribute table, under a field such as "name". Essentially, I'm trying to
figure out a way to query by label text.

Any ideas would be most appreciated.

Thanks in Advance,
