Sorry for the delayed answer but I wanted to be sure of what I will propose. There is a tool called Grid Analyzer that will work on any grid file open in MI; you may have to add the VM Grid Viewer (free from http://wnp.marconi.com/VerticalMapper/freedownloads.shtml ) to be able to open a VM grd file. There was a free Grid Analyzer 3.3 that has been widely circulated but is not supported anymore; it has export facility for any grid file in the Ascii A/I grid or XYZ formats in particular and it worked on my limited samples.
A trial Grid Analyzer 3.6 version is available from the author's new site www.terris.sk but its export capabilities may be very limited. This is not a plug for GA but a way to soften James' rather stern statement: there is indeed a free solution that works. I would like to be able to convert it to ascii (arcgrid format).
